The Steampunk Trilogy by Paul Di Filippo is back in these days, new edition of a collection of short stories from 1995 and known for giving its name to the genre (Di Filippo was the first to use the term “steampunk” in the title of the work).

The book had already been offered to the public by North Publishing in 1996 and 1998 and has now been recovered and brought to us with new look, from Delos Books, at a price of € 14.90.

Certainly Di Filippo’s steampunk is not what many of you expect, there aren’t airships, goggles or steam- powered robot since in the book is contained the essence of the genre: a modern, subversive, biting and then “punk” vision of the Victorinan past and, for transposition, a satire of today’s prejudice.

The Steampunk Trilogy brings together three short novels, Victoria (published for the first time on Amazing Stories, June 1991), Hottentots (previously unreleased) and Walt and Emily (released in 1993 on Interzone).

BACK COVER
Among the many sub-genres of fantasy, science fiction and fantasy, steampunk is one of the most fascinating, with its Victorian scenarios, with its unique technology, without electronic and electricity but based on gears and steam engines. Among the pioneers of the genre, which include names such as Tim Powers, William Gibson, Bruce Sterling and Alan Moore with his League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, a special place belong to Paul Di Filippo, the first to use the term Steampunk in the title of this book. The Trilogy collects three short novels set in the nineteenth century, in a whirlwind of adventures narrated with wit and irony that characterizes the usual string of Paul Di Filippo. What happened to the Queen of England? Is she really the creature with strange appetites that sitting on the throne of the British Empire?

THE AUTHOR
Paul Di Filippo was born in 1954 in Providence, Rhode Island’s rainy little town already known for being the birthplace of the dark writer H.P. Lovecraft. From his earliest writings, the author showed qualities of eclecticism, originality, unpredictability, recognized even by the most clever among the critics. The author was among the first to tell fanta-technic stories of the reign of Queen Victoria, founding with others the Steampunk genre, of which the famous trilogy we present is a shining example. He shall also review the activities of severe literary critic for leading American magazines. In recent years the author has been involved in writing texts for graphic novels.
