Steampunk Italia

I Victor Sierra sono un gruppo francese di musica elettronica con venature Steampunk che si presenta con questo terzo lavoro “Electric Rain” il quale è, a mio parere, molto più darkwave elettronico che non steampunk ma ciò non deve  far desistere l’ascoltatore. Questo “Electric rain” è interessante per ciò che propone ovvero una mistura tra elettronica con venature “malate” ed industrial alle vaporose e fumogene idee del pensiero steam cantate in più lingue.

Abbiamo pezzi in francese (la lingua madre del gruppo) pezzi in spagnolo, in inglese e persino in yiddish per dare, a mio avviso, un filo conduttore che ci porta in quell’ Europa ucronica di fine diciannovesimo secolo che è parte integrante di ciò che è lo steampunk.
Possiamo dire che tutto il lavoro ha un suo filo conduttore pur non essendo un concept album, cosa che non sempre è consueta e semplice. L’ album è molto ballabile: personalmente apprezzo più di altre “El topo”, “Blood in the skies” e “Mastermind” ma tutto sommato ha una buona resa anche il resto delle tracce; inoltre all’interno degli undici pezzi che compongono il lavoro della band troviamo  una bella cover di “White Rabbit” dei Jefferson airplane. Come sempre le cover o sono fatte bene oppure rischiano di lasciare inorridito non solo l’ascoltatore ma anche chi ha creato la canzone: ciò non accade con la coversong menzionata nella quale il gruppo trasfigura in modo eccellente le note originali facendo sì che si amalgami perfettamente con il resto delle loro canzoni.
Noto che i Victor Sierra hanno qualche rimando ai Ghostfire (per chi non li conoscesse consiglio un ascolto dei loro lavori), interessante sia sul piano compositivo che sul feeling che porta. A livello di registrazioni, mixaggio e post produzione il lavoro è fatto molto bene, nulla è lasciato al caso anche se forse io avrei utilizzato altri suoni o altri samples campionati, ma è una questione di gusto. Consiglio alcune finezze da apportare al sound della band, ma tutto sommato il loro lavoro è nel complesso positivo.

The Victor Sierra  are a group of French musicans and they play electronic music with veins of steampunk. They presents themeself with this third work “Electric Rain” which is, in my opinion, much more  electronic darkwave than steampunk, but this should not prevent someone the listener. This “Electric Rain” is interesting ‘cause in that it proposes a mixture of electronics with streaks “sick” and industrial with smoke and vapor cames from the steampunk ideas and they sang in several languages, I think it’s a choice to add something extra in their work.

We have pieces in French (the mother tongue of the group) pieces in Spanish, English and even in Yiddish to give, in my opinion, a common thread that leads us in that ‘Ucronic Europe’ at the end of the nineteenth century which is part of what is steampunk.

We can say that all the work has its own thread though not a concept album, which is not always familiar and simple. The album is very danceable; personally I like more than others, “El Topo”, “Blood in the skies” and “Mastermind” but all in all a good yield of the rest of the tracks, also within the eleven pieces of the there is a beautiful work of the band cover of “White Rabbit” by Jefferson Airplane.
As always, the covers are made or well or may leave the listener not only horror but also the creator of the song: this does not happen with the coversong mentioned in which the group transformed into an excellent making the original notes are perfectly mixed with the rest of their songs.

Known to have some reference to Victor Sierra Ghostfire (for those who do not know them I recommend a listen to their work), interesting both in terms of composition on the feeling that it brings. In terms of recording, mixing and post production work is very well done, nothing is left to chance, though perhaps I should have used other sampled sounds, or other samples, but it is a matter of taste. Council some refinements to be made to the band’s sound, but all in all their work is generally positive.
